本日、2019年度第1回英語検定の二次試験が行われます。そこで準２級を受検する人のために、直前(すぎる)対策です。

二次試験は面接官（1人）と6分間、英語での会話を行います。「大きな声で・ゆっくり」話すことを心がけましょう。attitude (態度) も採点項目です。愛想を振りまきましょう。

入室から面接までの流れ

ノックをして入室　”May I come in?”
挨拶　”Hello” あるいは ”It is nice to see you”

面接官：Can I have your card, please?
受験者：Here you are.

面接官：Please sit down.
受験者：OK. Thank you.

面接官：My name is … . What’s your name, please?
受験者：My name is … .

面接官：Mr. / Ms. … , this is EIKEN Grade Pre-2, OK？
受験者：Yes.

面接官：OK. Let’s Start the test. This is your card.
受験者：Thank you.

カードを受け取り、文章を黙読した後に音読する

面接官：First, please read the passage silently for 20 seconds.
受験者：OK.

面接官：Now, please read it aloud.

カードに関する３つの質問

音読後、問題カードの「パッセージ」「イラストA」「イラストB」について1問ずつ聞かれます。以下が、質問と回答例です。

No.3 の回答を終えると、面接官から「問題カードを裏返して置いてください」と指示があります。

では、質問ごとにポイントを見ていきましょう。

【質問 No.1】音読したパッセージに関して、“According to the passage, +What, When, Where, Who, Why, How” の形で問われますが、最近は ”Why”か”How”のどちらかです。
そして文中に “so”  “in this way”のいずれかがある場合、その前の箇所が答えになります。

したがって、黙読の指示があったら “so”または”in this way”の場所を把握しておくことが、非常に有効です。
そして面接官が、”According to the passage ”と言った直後、”Why”か”How”のどちらを言ったのか聞き取ります。
①”How”で聞かれた場合　→　By …ing ~（…には答えとなる文の動詞が入ります）
②”Why”で聞かれた場合　→　Because ~（主語は”they” や “it” といった代名詞に変えます）

ちなみに、文章に”in this way”がある場合、100%”How”で聞かれています。

【質問 No.2】イラストAには、5人の行動が描かれています。その5つの行動をシンプルな短文でそれぞれ描写します。主語は、” A man” ” A woman” “A boy” などを使用し、時制は現在進行系（Be 動詞 ＋ ing）を使用します。

【質問 No.3】イラストBでは、描かれている人物の状況を説明します。“Look at the girl in Picture B.”などと指示があるので、注意して聞きましょう。
傾向は下記の２パターンになります。

①何かをしようとしているが、障害があってできない状態にある
(例)  ジュースを買おうとしているが、自転車が邪魔で買うことができない（サンプルの例）
(例)   眠ろうとしているが、犬が吠えていて寝つけない
(例)  レストランに入ろうとしているが、混んでいて入れない

①のパターンの場合、答え方は因果関係を用いた答え方「A because B.」になります。約70%はこのパターンでの出題です。

②何かの状態に対して、何かのアクションを起こそうと思っている
(例)  車が汚れているので、車を洗おうと思っている
(例)  置き忘れているカメラを見つけて、交番に届けようと思っている

②のパターンの場合、答え方は並列の答え方「A and B.」が一般的です。
(例) He found a camera on a bench and he is thinking of taking it to the police.

 

2つの質問に対して、自分の経験や考えを答える

【質問 No.4】 問題カードのトピックに関連した事柄について、“Do you think 〜 ？” と問われます。
答えが “Yes” の場合は “Why?” 、答えが “No” の場合は “Why not?” と続けて質問されるので、”Yes／No”の「理由」「根拠」を２文以上で答えることが期待されます。

理由の２文については、２つの方法があります。

【パターン①】　別の理由を２つ並べる　A. Also, B.
【パターン②】　1つの理由を掘り下げる　A. B.

面接は「英語で意見を表明できるか？という試験であって、考えの内容を判断するのではない」ので、反射的にYes/Noと答えず少し考えて、２文を話せそうな立場を取って、Yes/Noを決めるといいです。

【質問 No.5】カードのトピックとは関係のない、日常的な事柄について問われます。Yes / Noで答え、続けて「理由」や「根拠」を説明します。

〈Yesと答えた場合〉─ The learning environment is very important. If we live abroad, we can understand the foreign language more quickly and deeply.
〈Noと答えた場合〉─ Now there are a variety of ways to learn a foreign language, and living abroad is only one of them. After all, motivation is most important.

◎質問例2
Do you sometimes cook meals at home?（あなたはときどき自宅で料理をしますか）
◎解答例2
〈Yesと答えた場合〉─ I sometimes make curry and rice for my family on weekends.
〈Noと答えた場合〉─ I’m busy studying, so I don’t have time to cook.

Today, more and more people are using the Internet to buy food. Do you think it is a good idea?
◎解答例1
〈Yesと答えた場合〉─ It saves you a lot of time. Also, you don’t have to carry heavy groceries.
〈Noと答えた場合〉─ Food is important, so we should examine it at the store before buying.

◎質問例2
These days, CDs are becoming less popular than before. Do you buy CDs?
◎解答例2
〈Yesと答えた場合〉─ CDs often have additional tracks or special items that can be gained only by buying CDs.
〈Noと答えた場合〉─ I use an MP3 player, so it is more convenient to download music from an online store.
